OverviewThe Jeep safari starts from the City of Chandigarh to one of the most unknown and pristine spots in the Indian jungles of Himachal Pradesh, the Spiti valley and Kinnaur. It involves remote valleys, small quaint traditional villages, clear sparkling mountain streams, high cold mountain passes and breathtaking scenery all around. The rugged terrain and old monasteries scattered precariously no slopes forms on of the most beautiful sights in India. We will also get a chance to visit the foremost highest permanent village on Earth, Kibber in Spiti Valley. Our journey will commence from leh to Manali, here we will do sightseeing at Naggar. Then will move to Batal, where we would explore the famous lake. From here, we will further visit Kaza, where we will see tiny villages. A drive for some more time will bring us to Sichling and to Tabo, the panoramic views of the places are breath taking. We will drive from here to Kalpa via Nako. From here, our journey will take us to Sangla. Couple of villages can be seen while going through Sarhan, Shimla and Kalka, which will be our last destination. Package Inclusions:

Manali cityManali at a height of 6,398 ft, in the Beas River valley, is a popular hill station in the mountains of Himachal Pradesh. Its 40 Kms. away from Kulu to the north and situated near the end of the valley on the National Highway leading to Leh. The landscape here is breathtaking. One sees well defined snow capped peaks, the Beas river with its clear water meanders through the town. On the other side are deodar and pine trees, tiny fields and fruit orchards. The Naggar Castle, a stone and wood structure built by Raja Sidh singh over 500 years ago, has been converted in to a heritage hotel. The gracefully built castle has a temple in the courtyard and also houses a small museum. The temple of the area, such as the grey sandstone Gauri Shankar Temple of Shiva that lies close to the Castle, the chatar Bhuj Temple, Tripura Sundri Devi Temple, the Jagti Patt Temple, with its triangular slab of stone, strewn with rose petals and rupee notes and the Murlidhar Temple, are worth a visit. The paintings and Photographs of the late Nicholas Roerich are exhibited in the Nicholas Roerich Gallery. He was an artist, Writer, Photographer, Archelogist, Explorer and mystic. Inside the Museum, one can see the beds, librery, settees, writing tables, toiletries, and samovars of the Roerich family. The Urswati Himalyan Folk Museum near by is another place to visit. while in the area, a trip to Gardhak Chuli is recommended for the spectacular view it provides of the valley on one side and the imposing, snow clad peaks on the other.This upper Beas region is surrounded by glaciers on three sides. The Chandekhani Pass at 12200 feet leads to the legendary Malana Valley and is easily accessible from here. KazaKaza is 210 Km from Kalpa, 47 km from Tabo. The headquarters of Spiti sub-district, Kaza lies on the bank of river Spiti. In earlier times, it was the capital of Nono, the Chief of Spiti.Kaza has a Buddhist Monastery and also a Hindu temple. Kaza mainly serves as a tourist base for Spiti valley and one can visit places like the Ki Moneastery, Kibber and Komic village, Nako, Pin valley, Kunzum Pass and Chandratal lake from here. Kaza and its nearby village has good accommodation and other facilities like Petrol/Diesel pumps. It also has a market for daily necessities. TaboTabo is 163 km from Kalpa and at a height of 3050 m. The village is situated on the left bank of river Spiti. Flanked on either sides by hills, its has one of the most important Buddhist monasteries regarded by many as only next to the Tholing Gompa in Tibet Some people call this place as the Ajanta of the Himalayas due to the many paintings which still retain the original color and elegance inside the old monastery. NakoNako is located at a height of 3662 m and 117 km from Kalpa. In Hangrang Valley is the largest village above sea level. It is also famous for Nako Lake which has boating facilities in summer and during winter its frozen surface is used for ice skating. The lake has lost much of its natural beauty as the edges are now cemented with concrete and boulders. KALPASituated at the height of 2758 m above the sea level and 110 km from Sarahan, Kalpa is a beautiful and main village of Kinnaur. Across the river faces the majestic mountains of the Kinner Kailash range. These are spectacular sights early in the morning as the rising sun touches the snowy peaks with crimson and golden light. ACCESS : Nearest Airport (267 km) and Railhead (244 km) is at Shimla. The route is on NH - 22 (The Hindustan Tibet Road) which bifurcates to Kalpa from Powari. Buses and Taxis are available at Shimla and Rampur. One can also reach Kalpa via Manali - Rohtang Pass - Kunzam Pass - Kaza (400 km). CLIMATE : In winter, the temperature can drop to below freezing point when heavy woolens are required and for summers light woolens are recommended. Bulging at its seams with unprecedented expansion, Shimla retains its colonial heritage, with grand old buildings, among them are the stately Viceregal Lodge, charming iron lamp posts and Anglo-Saxon names. The Mall, packed with shops and eateries, is the centre of attraction of the town, and Scandal Point, associated with the former Maharaja of Patiala escapades, offers a view of distant snow clad peaks. KazaKi Monastery : No matter what, do not drop this place from your itinerary, even if you are not on a spiritual tour. Almost 7km from Kaza, this Monastery, established in 11th century is the largest in Spiti valley. An architectural grandeur, you will be welcomed with a complimentary tea and witness the ancient Buddhist scrolls and paintings. Also known as Key Gompa, make sure you do not click photographs in praying room which is strictly prohibited. Dhankar Monasteries: About 40 Kms from Kaza, this group of monasteries is easily accessible from the town via cab or Himachal Pradesh Road Transport bus (leaves at 7:00AM). The bus drops at intersection between Dhankar and Shichling villages from where begins a trek of 10 Kms to monastery. At Dhankar Village you will find two gompas: one the most sought after 1000 years old and the new one recently inaugurated by Dalai Lama. If you have enough time, do visit these monasteries where the lamas are generous enough to show you around. TaboLocated at a distance of 48 kms from Kaza, this ancient village houses one of the most prominent monastery considered only next to the Tholing Gompa in Tibet in ranking. Also known as the Ajanta of the Himalayas, it is flanked by hills on either side is a place not to be missed. NakoNako Lake : Nako lake at 11000+ ft asl is a quaint lakefront in middle of one of the remotest villages in Kinnaur and offering a most stunning Himalayan Panorama. Highly recommended for Photographers. Nako Village Walk : Nako Village walk gives a glimpse of the lifestyle in the remote village where till very recently were not even connected with outside world. The walk covers Lake, Monastery and bylakes of Villages. Must for Photographers and experiential travellers. Nako Monastery : Nako Monastery is one of the oldest Monastery on the ancient routes followed by Lamas over centuries. There is even a residence of Dalai Lama for his convenience whenvever his Holiness visits the area. KALPAShiva Temple Kalpa : Shiva Temple at Kalpa (8000 ft asl) here which is well visited by tourists to the area. Guests stay here overnight especially to catch glimpse of the Kinner Kailash range of Himalayan views which are best in the mornings SANGLA VALLEYWalk to Glacier : Sangla Valley Camps start off in March and till about late May, early June, one can walk a couple of kms around the camps to a Glacier. Glaciers eventually melt away by May end or early June. SARAHANBhimkali Temple Complex : Bhimkali Temple is a old wooden structure temple considered one of the Shaktipeetha Temples and situated right in middle of the town overlooking Himalayan Views. Typically Visited enroute Sangla Valley even if it is a 17 km detour from the NH-22 SHIMLAChrist Church, Shimla, is one of the oldest church in North India. Built in the neo-Gothic style in 1857 to serve the largely Anglican British community in Shimla. Christ Church is situated on The Ridge and is one of the prominent landmarks of Shimla. The Pipe-Organ of Christ Church is one of the biggest in the Indian subcontinent and was erected in September 1899. Mall Road ShimlaMall Road is a city centre area with a walking street with shops around. Mall road is closed for vehicular traffic. About 1 km long street, at one end of the Mall is The Clarkes hotel and the other end is the ridge and Christ Church. Mall Road in Shimla is perhaps the most happening of Mall Roads in all Hill stations in India and therefore a popular hang out place for a large number of regular getaway seekers from neighboring plains and for tourists to Shimla. Mall Road is accessible from Circular road via a lift. Mall road is extremely touristy and often gets crowded in evenings and therefore must be avoided by those who seek peace and tranquility. Kali Bari TempleKali Bari temple is a popular devi temple in Shimla at one end of the mall road. Jakhoo TempleA Popular Lord Hanuman Temple a few kms away from Shimla and from where one gets views of the Shimla town. On a notorious side, bordering on a mini-experience is a set of mischievious monkeys that reside here and seem to pounce on anything loose (Can even by a handbag or a purse). Indian Institute of Advanced StudiesInstitute of Advanced studies, an impressive colonial era building, takes one back in time. Its one of the historic places where India - Pakistan Partition pact was sealed. A guided tour is available of the area. It can also be a short walk from the Mall or just a hop away from whats popularly considered city centre. Taradevi TempleTaradevi Temple, a Devi temple set on hilltop offering views of Shimla town and area around. Temple is popular with locals and tourists to the area. Lakkar BazarLakkar Bazaar is known for wooden toys made by a small group of Sikh carpenters who settled there a century ago from Hoshiarpur. Purchase of Wooden walking sticks is popular with tourists. Himachal State MuseumHimachal State Museum has a rich display of the cultural, artistic and archaeological heritage of Himachal Pradesh. The various galleries in here include Pre-Historic Gallery, Wood-Carving Gallery Archaeology Gallery, Wall Painting Gallery, Coin Gallery, Pahari Painting Gallery, etc.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Manali and NaggarWe will be guided in our trip by certified and locally experienced guides who know the trails and roads on the mountains like the back of their hand. Under their expert guidance we will see the historical sites, the wonderful vista and the spectacular village of nagger situated 12 kms by road from Manali. The roads are well maintained and the journey a treat for the astounding alpine scenery that flashes by the window of the car. Thereafter, we can get back for a hot refreshing and rejuvenating bath in the famous hot springs of Vashist that is said to wash away all sins and leave the body and soul clear and pristine. The high sulphur content of the water also gets rid of skin diseases and infections. We will be staying at the camp in Prini, where the staff will set up bonfires .Attractions of this day are: Kullu valley, the Hadimba Devi Mandir (temple)the Manu Maharishi Ashram, Club house, the temple of Shiva the Roerich art Gallery Gadhan Thekchokling Monastery the castle at Naggar, and Jatathsukh temple. For those of us who like thrill and adventure, they can paraglide at Halan Valley; fish at the Aut, Yoga and reiki streams and enjoy the benefits of ayurvedic massage at Vashist. Day 2: Manali - BatalWe will drive to Batal, 100 km from Manali, mesmerized by the breathtaking views and glorious landscape that will greet us on our way. We will see the Rohtang La monastery, at an improbable height of 3980 meters. We will camp overnight at Batal in tents with bonfires and barbecues as usual and entertainment provided by the locals or participation from the group. Chandertal Lake, a short walk from Batal may also be visited if time permits. Day 3: Batal - KazaAfter breakfast, we will drive 88 km from Batal to Kaza, winding through mountain roads, bypassing peaks, valleys and waterfalls and marveling at the ingenuity of man that had made a road through thje wilderness for the benefit of the later generations. Kunzum La, a monastery at 4558 meters is a place that will imprint itself in your memory forever by its simple beauty and captivating charm. We will the visit Kaza on our way back and enjoy the night in tenets with a merry fire to keep us company. Adventure sports like horse riding and yak riding will take place in Losar village, a short distance away. Day 4: sightseeing in kazaKaza is the administrative headquarters of the sub division of Spiti and is filled with tourist attractions with a high deposit of petrol and diesel only a short while away. It is a problem to keep the fuels liquid in the depths of winter when everything is buried under snow. We may also visit the famous monastery at Kibber village and thereafter we will move to Yang Yud Gompa. Day 5: Kaza - SichlingOn this day, we will drive 20 kms from Kaza to Sichling and indulge ourselves in the jungle safari. The road passes through the picturesque Pin valley and if we are lucky we may even see some of the local wildlife n the way. The slopes and forests are populated by deer, marmots, hares and other herbivores, and cheetahs and tigers as predators. The Pin Valley National Park will provide more opportunities for sightseeing and stay like boy scouts in tents and wrap ourselves warmly in sleeping bacgs, listening to the murmuring of the fire outside. Day 6: Sichling - TaboEarly morning, we will start moving to Tabo, 48 km from Sichling. On the way we will visit the Dhankar Gompa ,the most ancient and largest monastic complex in Spiti and has temples, chortens and Tabo Gompa that will astound and awe the tourist and leave him enthralled to the loveliness of the place. It is called the Ajanta of the Himalayas and it is a beautiful space for camping and having one of the best nights of our lives under the starry sky and chill winds blowing the flames of the bonfire in all directions with every gust. At Lalung gompa, the main attractions are: The Golden Temple, the Mabdala Temple, the Bodhisattva Maitreya Temple, the Dromton temple and the chamber of art relics and beautiful pictures which will remain engraved in our hearts forever more. Day 7: Tabo - NakoStart from Tabo to Nako, 69 kms from tabo. It is an authentic style of atrchitectural symmetry that is unique to the region with its unparelleld beauty with its Gompas, stucco images no the walls and murals. In nako village the main attractions are the monstic complex, the upper temple the small white temple and the footprint of Padmasambha Day 8: Nako - KalpaStart from Tabo to Nako, 125 kms to Kalpa where the Satluj and Spiti rivers confluence will leave you spellbound. The perfect place for contemplating the majesty of the Himalayas ands slow appreciation of the beautiful scenery will occupy our day and refresh our minds from the mundane stress day to ay existence at our crowded cities. There is a jeep safari for adventure lovers and the evening will be spent around the bonfire. We will also see the Kinnaur Kailash, with a 70 meter Shivling at the top o the mountain and and also we can see the plantation of Chilgoza. Day 9: Kalpa -SanglaWe will drive 51 kms from Kalpa to Sangla pasing thorugh more natural beauty that will awe us with its sheer charm and vibrancy. The road goes through the Recong Peo, district headquarters of Kinaur. The road is widely populated and this is an excellent opportunity to interact with the local people and shop for souvenirs or gifts for the loved ones back home. The foremost visit of temples like; Chanadika Devi can be done. A must visit to Kamru village and fort. Day 10- SanglaSangla is located on the banks of the Baspa River and provides a great location for adventure sports such as kayaking, rock climbing, trekking or bungee jumping. People more culturally inclined may visit the Chitkul village which houses some very interesting temples and monasteries. The proximity of temple and monasteries underlines the fact of the unity in diversity in India. Day 11: Sangla -SarahanWe will drive 92 kms from Sangla to Sarahan, moving thorugh the beautiful Kinnauri landscape and its huge variety is flora and fauna. The village of Sarahan is a must visit for it is one of the most ancient and unchanged villages n Himachal. There are some famous temples to visit for example: Raja Bushahr Palace Bhimakali Temple, and Usha Temple Day 12: Sarahan- ShimlaA 184 km drive will bring us back to Shimla from Sarahan and we will be staying at Hotel East Bourne that has comfortable beds, thick blankets and hot showers to wash away the exhaustion and dirt of the mountains and come out sparkling like new. We will visit the Padam Palace at Rampur and also the Sri Sat Nahan temple and the famour sie for manufacture and creation of pashmina wool garmets. evening back to kalka ..
