Overview

Solang Valley is a beautiful and picturesque valley at the top of the Kullu Manali valley in Himachal Pradesh, India. It is just 14 km northwest of the resort town Manali on the way to Rohtang Pass, and is known for its summer and winter sports destination. The sports most commonly offered are paragliding, skiing in winter and Zorbing in summer. Giant slopes of lawn comprise Solang Valley and provide it its reputation as a popular ski resort. A few ski agencies offering courses and equipment reside here and operate only during winters. Snow melts during the summer months and skiing is then replaced by zorbing (a giant ball with room for 2 people which is rolled down a 200 meter hill), paragliding, parachuting and horse riding. A ropeway was recently opened to take the tourist further up on the mountain that gives more options for about 15 minutes paragliding flight. The camp is located in this beautiful valley on the bank of the Beas river and consist of the alpine and dome tents. All the above activities are at the walking distance from camp. Solang Valley Manali

Solang Valley in Manali is located at a distance of 13 kms in a side valley at the top of the Kullu valley is a splendid valley between Solang village and Beas Kund. Solang valley offers the view of glaciers and snow capped mountains and peaks. Solang Valley has fine ski slopes. The Mountaineering Institute of Manali has installed a ski lift for training purpose. Located here is a hut and guest house of the Mountaineering and Allied sports Institute, Manali. Now a few hotels have also come up. The winter skiing festival is organised in Solang Valley. Sking and Paragliding are two main activities are organised here. Apart from this many other adventure sports are available like Zorbing, Horse riding & Snow Motor Bikes riding etc.


Kothi

Kothi situated at the foothill of Rohtang pass and is just 12 kilometers from Manali at an altitude of 2500 m. It offers a magnificent view of snow capped mountains and glaciers, the Beas river flow through a very deep and narrow gorge at this point. Kothi used to be a camping site when Rohtang pass had to be climbed on foot.


Rohtang Pass

Rohtang Pass is 51 kms from Manali. Located at a height of 3980 Mtrs, on highway to Keylong/Leh. The Pass offers a panorama and spectacular mountain view. once served as a crucial trade route, and still remains the gateway to the districts of Lahaul and Spiti.The Pass is open from mid April to November each year, and provides wonderful views of the entire surroundings. Just beyond the Pass is the Sonapani Glacier and the twin peak of Gaypan. The Beas Kund, the source of the Beas river, a holy site for Hindus, as the sage Vyas is said to have meditated at this spot, is also accessible from the Rohtang Pass.


Vashisht Temple

Vashist, a small village 3 kms from Manali located on the Left Bank of River Beas in Manali towards Rohtang pass is worth a visit, which is renowned for its Hot Water Springs and Temple. The village is also the site of some old temples, dedicated to the great sage Vashisht, and to Lord Rama. The Himachal Tourism sulphur baths are just beyond these shrines. Natural Hot Sulphur Water Springs with two separate bathing tanks for Gents and Ladies, which are always full of tourists. Turkish Style Showers fitted baths have also been built nearby. Hot water from the nearby Spring is provided for bathing.

Solang Ropeway

The ropeway is the latest state of the art built by Poma of France, featuring 19 cabins with a seating capacity of 8 persons in each. It covers a distance of 1.3 km having a vertical rise of 500 meters and a top speed of 6 m/s. It is designed to carry 1200 passengers up the mountain in an hour. It has attachments to facilitate skiers and their equipment and easily accommodates all adventure sports gear for summer sports like paragliders and mountain bikes. Being the latest version of the gondola lifts it is inbuilt with multiple safety and security devices to ensure a smooth and secure travel. It is further operated by trained professionals who are at the service of their guests with zeal.


Skiing and Snowboarding in Solang Valley

Once Solang is covered in a blanket of thick snow, Solang valley turns into a skiers paradise. From the top station, there is a vertical drop of 500 meters to the base station. Pure ski excitement guaranteed, gliding down the mountain slope, skiing or boarding, through the white still landscape. Day Ski Passes are available for unlimited snow fun. At the base station there is a button lift for the less experienced or students with a soft slope in the centre of the valley... Winter in Solang, with the white timeless landscape all around invites everyone to try the ski experience. Ski equipment is easy available in the area.


Paragliding in Solang Valley

Have you ever dreamt of soaring through the sky or wondered what it’s like to fly like a bird? Solang is the place... There are no words to describe the experience of the soundless wing flying high through the sky... If you are an experienced paraglider, Solang has a lot to offer. There are 2 jump stations, one on a lower and one on a higher level. For the higher one you take the gondola to the top station.


Horseriding in Solang Valley

Riding a horseback dates back to the time immemorial. Once the most ancient mode of transport is now available only as a pleasure ride and Solang is one of the places to indulge in this experience. Under guided protection, the horseride is safe, also for the smaller ones. There are several horseriding trails for longer or shorter trips. A favorite route is the mountain trail to the Shiva temple which is built up the hill, at the bottom of a large waterfall.


Snow mobiles in Solang Valley

Famously known as sleds around the world, this is one machine to ride to make a statement in winter. Irrespective of how deep the snow is, one could float over snow crystals and effortlessly zip around the mountainside and experience the fresh mountain snow. The only hazard snowmobiling has that it could hook you on and you would crave for more and more.


Zorbing in Solang Valley

Adrenaline junkies will love zorbing which involves two people superman-diving into the ball, getting strapped in, face to face, and zorbing down hill. Watching the zorbonauts laugh and scream their way down the run where the sky and grass blend into one blur of exhilaration. Camping in Solang Valley
